Economic Development Programs
Resources and Services for Business and Industry

Through the Office of Economic Development Programs, DTAE provides a number of programs and services designed to assist businesses and industries with their training needs. These include Quick Start, Georgia's economic development training incentive, as well as other programs delivered through the Office of Economic Development Programs at each technical college. Continuing education, administration of Georgia's Retraining Tax Credit, the Certified Economic Developer Trainer (CEDT) program, and new program incubation are also responsibilities of Economic Development programs.

These programs serve Georgia's new, expanding and existing industries through training and developing solutions to the challenges facing Georgia's businesses, particularly in the area of developing a skilled workforce.



  Georgia Quick Start
One of the most exciting and valuable resources within the technical education system is the Georgia Quick Start program. Quick Start epitomizes Georgia's economic growth and workforce development by functioning as an incentive to new business and industry as well as promoting the expansion of existing businesses. Quick Start helps industries start up and expand their operations in Georgia by creating customized training programs.

Designed by experts in their fields, these three specialist certification programs prepare Georgia's workforce in the areas of customer service, manufacturing, and construction.

  Service Industry Academy
Georgia's Service Industry Academies provide training and certification in communications, customer service, computer, and the essential business skills necessary to provide world-class customer service. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will become a Certified Customer Service Specialist and be guaranteed an employment interview with one of the participating companies.   Certified Economic Developer Trainer - CEDT
In response to the increasing importance of high quality workforce training for Georgia's business and industrial prospects, the Georgia Board of Technical and Adult Education initiated a certification program in 1986. This program, Certified Economic Developer Trainer (CEDT), was designed for the state-level and technical college personnel whose job responsibilities focused on business and industry training for the State's economic development.

Workforce development has become an important issue in our state. In order to provide a skilled workforce for Georgia's business and industries and to provide employment and training opportunities to our citizens, there are a number of programs and initiatives that are currently underway to fill these needs.

Maintenance Assessment
The Maintenance Assessment program helps business and industries assess and improve employee skills in the areas of mechanical and electrical maintenance. [MORE INFO]
    Retraining Tax Credit
This section has information and forms for the Retraining Tax Credit. The objective of the retraining tax credit is to foster the profitability and competitiveness of Georgia's existing industry by encouraging workforce development through retraining tax incentives. [MORE INFO]
 
    Georgia Business Expansion and Support Act
Under the leadership of former Governor Zell Miller, the General Assembly passed the Georgia Business Expansion and Support Act. This bill provides a number of tax credits for various job creation, investment, retraining, machinery and similar activities for expanding businesses.     Continuing Education
The role of continuing education is to develop short courses, workshops, and seminars for professional development and personal enrichment. Students who satisfactorily complete most career, professional and technical courses receive continuing education units (CEUs) documenting that their instruction has met nationally established standards in planning, designing, teaching, and evaluating.
