Quick Start and NCR launch long-term training partnership

When NCR made headlines in June with the announcement that it had chosen Georgia as the new location for its global headquarters and a new ATM manufacturing facility, Quick Start was already on the job. Within days, a Quick Start team was crossing the Atlantic to conduct the initial project study at NCR’s manufacturing plant in Budapest, Hungary.

The announcement by the Fortune 500 industry leader in self-service business solutions sparked celebrations across the state. Peachtree City, Duluth and Columbus will be adding a total of 3,000 jobs in the next few years as NCR builds its Georgia team. NCR is the global leader in ATMs, retail self-checkout, and airline and healthcare self-check-in.

At the time of NCR’s announcement, the company’s chairman and CEO, Bill Nuti, praised the quality of Georgia’s workforce and Quick Start’s training. When all the factors were added up, “Georgia scored the highest,” he said, as he shared the stage with Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue.

When the announcement was made, Quick Start was already delivering custom-designed workforce solutions for NCR’s worldwide customer services division in Peachtree City. Quick Start’s multimedia designers and software programmers have produced a number of Web-based training modules for NCR’s consumer helpdesk and systems support team trainees. One benefit of the Web-based modules is that they can be used to support global customer service operations through NCR’s Center of Excellence in Peachtree City.

“The Quick Start team has been fantastic,” said Dean Sayer, NCR learning specialist. “They’re excellent at putting ideas forward as we’ve developed this training from the ground up.”

In addition to working with NCR in Peachtree City, Quick Start teamed with NCR’s manufacturing experts to conduct a project study and launch a pre-employment assessment process for the company in Columbus, all within just a few weeks of the announcement.

“We studied their processes, talked regularly with the NCR team, and worked closely with the Georgia Department of Labor here in Columbus to get the training started,” said Sean McMillan, Quick Start director of western regional operations. “Working together, Georgia and NCR have formed an unbeatable team.”

At a recent meeting at Quick Start’s Columbus facility, where the NCR training is taking place, NCR officials watched candidates complete assessment exercises, reviewed the training plan for the new manufacturing facility, and outlined next steps.

“This is a major operation,” said Rick Marquardt, NCR vice president of global manufacturing. “We’re looking at the challenges that face any startup, but this is a strong team. We’re off to a great start.”

“NCR’s success is important to the local communities where its businesses are located and to the state as a whole,” said Jackie Rohosky, assistant commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia and head of Quick Start. “We’re totally committed to supporting NCR as it transforms its business.”
