Training Agreement Signing Ceremony Held Aug. 14
Lawrenceville, Georgia - Quick Start, Georgia’s internationally acclaimed economic development program, recently announced a training agreement with Suniva Inc. Administered through the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), Quick Start provides customized workforce training at no cost to qualified new, expanding and existing businesses in Georgia. The Quick Start program has been in existence since 1967. During this time period, they have trained more than 600,000 employees through 5,100 projects with a broad range of industries.
The Quick Start training agreement was developed based on a Project Study that was conducted at Suniva. The training agreement is based on Suniva’s goal to provide approximately 100 new jobs for Georgians. Quick Start will be designing and developing training material, as well as providing instructors, for the training classes.
“Quick Start is proud to be a part of the growth and success of Suniva, a Georgia-born company at the leading edge of the solar energy industry,” said Jackie Rohosky, assistant commissioner of economic development programs for the TCSG.
Suniva’s new factory in Norcross, Ga. is designed to redefine the manufacturing process for high-efficiency solar cells in order to bring down the cost of photovoltaics, with an initial capacity of 32 megawatts (MW) on its first line. The company is already planning additional lines and expects capacity to total more than 160 MW over the next two years.
The training program involves three distinct partners: Suniva, Gwinnett Technical College, and Quick Start. Each partner will be responsible for the successful completion of this program. The partnership will not end when the Quick Start training is completed. Gwinnett Technical College will be available to assist Suniva with ongoing training programs.
“We are pleased to be working with Suniva to bring additional jobs to Gwinnett County and look forward to an ongoing relationship that supports their business growth and further economic development in our community,” says Sharon Bartels, president, Gwinnett Technical College.
