DEUTZ Corporation Announces Quick Start Training Initiative

More than 50 new jobs are on the way to Jackson County, and representatives from the DEUTZ Corporation recently signed an agreement with Georgia Quick Start and Lanier Technical College to provide training for the company’s new employees.

DEUTZ Corporation, located in Pendergrass, Ga., is the U.S. subsidiary of DEUTZ AG of Cologne, Germany.

The new facility will serve as the North American Engine Remanufacturing Center for the German diesel engine supplier. Here, original DEUTZ Xchange® engines will be produced in the same manner as at the company’s facility in Übersee, Germany. The Pendergrass facility will allow DEUTZ to bring its remanufacturing process closer to its customers throughout the Americas and provide faster response to customer demand.

DEUTZ Corporation president and CEO, Robert T. Mann, said he was “pleased to develop a manufacturing presence in North America, and especially Jackson County, as it is very close to the already established operations in Georgia.”

With annual sales of about €1.5 billion, DEUTZ AG is one of the world’s leading independent suppliers of diesel engines used in construction and agricultural machinery, power generation applications, and commercial and rail vehicles. The output range of DEUTZ engines stretch from 4 to 600 kilowatts. DEUTZ customers are served by 16 sales companies, 12 sales offices, 16 service centers, and more than 800 sales and service partners in more than 130 countries all over the world.

Quick Start is Georgia’s internationally acclaimed economic development program that provides customized workforce training at no cost to qualified new, expanding and existing businesses in Georgia. Since 1967, Quick Start has trained more than 600,000 employees through 5,100 projects with a broad range of industries.

The Quick Start training agreement was developed based on a Project Study that was conducted at the DEUTZ AG Engine Remanufacturing Center in Übersee, Germany. The training agreement is based on DEUTZ Corporation’s commitment to provide approximately 55 new jobs for Georgians in the Jackson County area. Quick Start will be designing and developing training material, as well as providing instructors, for the classes.

The training program involves three distinct partners: DEUTZ Corporation, Lanier Technical College and Quick Start. Each partner will be responsible for the successful completion of this program. The partnership will not end when the Quick Start training is completed. Lanier Technical College will be available to assist DEUTZ Corporation with ongoing training programs.

“We are pleased to be working with DEUTZ Corporation,” said Dr. Mike Moye, president of Lanier Technical College. “Jackson County is extremely important to us at Lanier Technical College.”
