Training agreement signing ceremony held Aug. 28
Madison, GA - SOVIS North America is proud to announce the recent addition of a production line at the company’s Madison, Ga., facility. About 20 jobs will be created in the expansion, in which the company is adding state-of-the-art manufacturing technology and equipment to produce cooler and freezer doors.
To aid in the expansion, SOVIS is forming a partnership with Georgia Quick Start to develop a comprehensive program to help train the company’s new employees.
For more than 30 years, SOVIS has produced tempered bent glass for customers around the world, offering curved and flat glass panels in custom shapes that are available with silkscreen design, custom drilling and finished edges. The product line includes offerings for commercial display cases in the food retail, restaurant, and general merchandising markets.
On Aug. 1, 2007, Anthony International (AI), the world’s largest manufacturer of glass doors and display equipment for the commercial refrigeration industry, acquired SOVIS. “The acquisition of SOVIS, NA positions Anthony International to grow and maintain its position as the number one global supplier of specialty glass to the refrigeration industry,” stated Jeffrey Clark, president and CEO of Anthony International.
“At Quick Start, we’re proud to be a partner to a world-class firm like SOVIS that is bringing jobs and technology to Georgia,” said Quick Start leader Jackie Rohosky, assistant commissioner of economic development programs for the Technical College System of Georgia.
“DeKalb Technical College is proud to be a part of the vibrant community in Morgan County. The partnership with Quick Start and Sovis will continue to energize the potential of individuals, help improve their lives, and contribute added value to the economic wealth of our community.” said Dr. Robin Hoffman, president of DeKalb Technical College.
Quick Start is Georgia’s internationally acclaimed economic development program that provides customized workforce training at no cost to qualified new, expanding and existing businesses in Georgia. Since 1967, Quick Start has trained more than 600,000 employees through 5,100 projects with a broad range of industries.
The Quick Start training agreement was developed based on a Project Study that was conducted at SOVIS facilities in Madison, Ga. The training agreement is based on the company’s commitment to provide approximately 20 new jobs for Georgians in the Morgan County area. Quick Start will be designing and developing training material, as well as providing instructors, for the classes.
The training program involves three distinct partners: SOVIS North America, DeKalb Technical College and Quick Start. Each partner will be responsible for the successful completion of this program. The partnership will not end when the Quick Start training is completed. DeKalb Tech will be available to assist SOVIS with ongoing training programs.
