D&H Distributing Announces Initiative with Georgia's Quick Start Program to Train New Employees

Based on a study of D&H operations, Quick Start is providing materials, instructors and classes to prepare staff at D&H’s Newnan distribution center

NEWNAN, Ga., June 12, 2009 – D&H Distributing, the major North American computer products and consumer electronics distributor, announces its partnership with Quick Start, Georgia’s premier workforce training program, to prepare the first 100 workers hired at its new distribution center in Newnan, Ga. The state-of-the-art warehouse facility officially began operations in early May. Training for the 100 new D&H employees (or “co-owners;” D&H is an ESOP -- employee stock ownership plan -- company) has already begun at the facility, located at 185 Coweta Industrial Parkway, and will continue until all new employees have been trained.

Quick Start is an internationally acclaimed economic development program that provides customized workforce training at no cost to qualified new, expanding and existing businesses in Georgia. Since 1967, Quick Start has trained more than 600,000 employees through 5,100 projects in a broad range of industries, including hundreds of distribution projects.

“The team at Quick Start is honored to provide the strategic workforce solutions a growing company like D&H Distributing needs to keep its momentum going,” said Jackie Rohosky, Technical College System of Georgia assistant commissioner of economic development programs and Quick Start’s leader. “The company’s success is our success, and we’re committed to a full partnership with D&H and their Georgia operations.”

To develop the training curriculum, Quick Start consulted with D&H Distributing’s management, examining aspects of the new facility’s operations. Quick Start designed training materials and assigned instructors for the classes. The third partner in the project is West Central Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia with campuses in the Newnan/Atlanta area. The college will provide additional support for D&H’s ongoing training needs.

Within its first year of operation in Newnan, D&H plans to increase the warehouse staff to close to 150 Georgia workers. These additional D&H co-owners will also be trained through the Quick Start program.

“We’re very glad we can provide the benefit of Quick Start’s comprehensive, well-researched training regimen for our new co-owners in Atlanta. Quick Start is a tremendously useful program on behalf of the state of Georgia,” said Michael Schwab, co-president at D&H Distributing. “Quick Start’s experience with distribution infrastructures makes them an exceptional partner for this project. We’re confident that our new co-owners will hit the ground running, which helps confirm that investing in the Atlanta area was great choice.”

“D&H’s decision to establish itself as part of the Newnan business community is exciting for all of us. West Central Technical College is honored to be able to uphold that commitment with training for D&H’s personnel,” said Dr. Skip Sullivan, president of West Central Technical College. “This is an excellent example of how the program lends itself to the development of our corporate community and the strengthening of our regional economy.”
